Three Portuguese wines go on sale in Systembolaget’s temporary range (“Tillfälligt sortiment”) tomorrow, Friday 23 October: Casal da Coelheira’s Amphora Alicante Bouschet 2024 from the Tejo at SEK 229, Quinta das Maias’ organic Malvasia Fina 2024 from the Dão at SEK 189, and Valados de Melgaço’s Alvarinho Reserva 2024 at SEK 199. A fourth, Vinevinu’s CIMA Alvarinho 2024, follows on Friday 6 November at SEK 219, according to launch dates, prices and product data in Systembolaget’s product search, which NorthSouth HQ queried on 22 October. Each comes through a different Swedish importer.
The batch is smaller than first listed. Earlier this month the search also showed Quinta do Vale Meão’s Meandro 2023 for 23 October; on 22 October a search for Meandro or Vale Meão returned no products. The Swedish monopoly’s top-end Portuguese releases this month, from Wine & Soul and João Portugal Ramos, were covered on 14 October.

A Tejo red made in clay
Casal da Coelheira is a family estate in Tramagal, in the municipality of Abrantes on the south bank of the Tejo, bought in 1986 by José and Xinanda Rodrigues and run today with their son, the winemaker Nuno Falcão Rodrigues. It farms 53 hectares of vines. Nuno Falcão Rodrigues told the regional paper Médio Tejo that the team has worked with Alicante Bouschet for more than 30 years and now makes a version in clay amphorae, with extended skin contact, in very limited volumes. The Swedish listing follows the estate’s Best Red award at the 16th Concurso Vinhos do Tejo, announced on 26 September for its Private Collection Alicante Bouschet 2023. The Tejo is a small presence in Sweden: 15 of the 567 Portuguese products in Systembolaget’s search come from the region, and the Amphora is one of three with a 2026 launch date. It also joins a short list of clay-vessel Portuguese wines in the range, among them João Portugal Ramos’s Vinho de Talha, Fitapreta’s Branco de Talha and Barroca da Malhada’s Arinto na Ânfora. Systembolaget’s 2024 and 2025 sales-per-article lists record no sales of any Casal da Coelheira wine.
The Dão’s only organic wine on the list
Quinta das Maias sits at about 600 metres in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela and is the sister estate of Quinta dos Roques, whose owners bought it out in 1997, according to the British wine writer Jamie Goode’s Wine Anorak. Systembolaget names the producer as Sociedade Agrícola Faldas da Serra, Lda, registered in Cunha Baixa, Mangualde. The Malvasia Fina 2024 is flagged as organic in the product search, which makes it the only organic wine among the 19 Dão products Portugal has in the range, and it is bottled in what Systembolaget classes as a lighter glass bottle, with a “medium” packaging climate rating against “higher” for the other three. Its importer, Boa Pressão AB, is the most active importer of Portuguese wine in the temporary range this year: 12 of Portugal’s 44 temporary-range launches dated 2026 came through it, ahead of Handpicked Wines Sweden AB with ten. Neither Quinta das Maias nor Quinta dos Roques appears in the 2024 or 2025 sales lists.
Valados de Melgaço comes back
Valados de Melgaço is the only one of the four with a sales record in Sweden. Its Alvarinho Reserva, under the same article number, sold 3,276.75 litres through Systembolaget in 2024 and 2,679 litres in 2025, about 4,370 and 3,570 bottles, according to the monopoly’s annual sales-per-article lists, and the 2024 vintage now returns for a third year of Swedish sales. The company was incorporated in 2015 and is led by Artur Meleiro, a former management consultant born on the family’s Quinta de Golães; in an interview published on the company’s website he described its Alvarinhos as vegan and said that the concept was unfamiliar in Portugal, “but we cannot say the same of the Nordic countries or Canada.” Systembolaget describes the wine as fruity and very fresh, with notes of green apple, nectarine, pineapple, fresh herbs and lemon, to be served at 8–10°C, and puts it in its “crisp and fruity” white style group. It is The WineAgency Sweden AB’s only Portuguese product in the range.
Cement and wood: Vinevinu’s second Swedish release
Vinevinu is a father-and-son project started with the 2024 harvest by the oenologists Luís and Manuel Cerdeira. According to the company’s website, Luís Cerdeira ran the laboratory and tasting panel of the Vinhos Verdes regional commission for 22 years while also managing and making the wines of Soalheiro, the family brand his father created in 1982, and worked exclusively on Soalheiro from 2016 to 2024. The name CIMA stands for cimento e madeira, cement and wood, the two vessels the wine is made in, from high-altitude Alvarinho vineyards in Monção e Melgaço, according to the producer’s product page. Systembolaget’s tasting note picks up the wood: oak, yellow apple, apricot, walnut, orange peel, spice, butter and mimosa, placing it in the “full-bodied and flavourful” group, with a body score of 6 on its taste clock against 4 for the Valados wine. It is Vinevinu’s second temporary-range launch this year after Génese Alvarinho 2025 on 17 April (SEK 179), both through Handpicked Wines Sweden AB, which also carries the producer’s Guri in the order range.
Portugal’s 2026 in the temporary range
Of the 567 Portuguese products in Systembolaget’s search on 22 October, 109 carry a 2026 launch date, including those still to come. Fifty-four entered the order range, eleven the fixed range and 44 the temporary range, Systembolaget’s limited-run range, whose releases fall outside the fixed-range launch dates set in its launch plans. October is the busiest month of the year, with eleven Portuguese temporary-range launches; no earlier month had more than seven. Vinho Verde is the most frequent named region among the 44, with ten, ahead of the Douro with nine, and five of those ten are single-variety Alvarinhos: Encostas de Melgaço and Génese in April, Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas in July, and Valados de Melgaço and CIMA now. Priced at SEK 199 and SEK 219, the two new Alvarinhos sit above the SEK 195 median of the 28 single-variety Portuguese Alvarinhos in 75 cl bottles on Systembolaget’s list.

What it means for Portuguese producers
None of these four estates is a volume supplier to Sweden, and all four reach Swedish stores through the temporary range rather than the fixed range. What each needed was a Swedish importer prepared to bring the wine in, and the four used four different houses. The temporary range is a single release rather than a permanent listing, and Valados de Melgaço shows what comes next if a wine sells: a return under the same article number. Systembolaget publishes its article-level sales once a year, so the 2026 list will show how the Amphora, the Malvasia Fina and the two Alvarinhos sold. The NorthSouth HQ directory of Portuguese companies in the Nordics lists the producers already selling there.
