Portuguese wine in Sweden is overwhelmingly an everyday purchase: the median Portuguese still wine on Systembolaget’s shelves costs SEK 179 a bottle. Only four of 380 Portuguese still wines in the monopoly’s current range cost SEK 1,000 or more per 75 cl, and three of those four go on sale in the next fortnight. João Portugal Ramos’s Estremus 2019 arrives on 20 October at SEK 1,099; on 29 October the Douro producer Wine & Soul releases Quinta do Manoella Vinha Alecrim 2016 at SEK 1,595 and Pintas 2023 at SEK 1,150, according to launch dates and prices published in Systembolaget’s product search, which NorthSouth HQ queried on 14 October.

The fourth SEK 1,000-plus wine, and still the most expensive Portuguese still wine in the range, is Quinta do Crasto’s Vinha Maria Teresa 2020 at SEK 2,099, an order-range listing since May 2023. Once the October launches are live, Portugal’s top end in Sweden will have been reshaped in ten days: Vinha Alecrim becomes the second-most expensive Portuguese still wine on the list, Pintas the third and Estremus the fourth. The next bottle down, Prats & Symington’s Chryseia 2022, costs SEK 849.

Two web launches from the Douro

Both Wine & Soul wines are imported by Handpicked Wines Sweden AB and listed in the “Webblanseringar” (web launches) category, with sales opening at 10:00 on 29 October. They are the only two Portuguese products in that category on Systembolaget today. Quinta do Manoella Vinha Alecrim is a 2016 red at 14.5 percent alcohol, already ten years old at release; Pintas is a 2023 red, also at 14.5 percent. Wine & Soul, which runs its winery in Vale de Mendiz in the Douro, sells the Quinta da Manoella, Pintas, Guru and Vinha do Altar ranges as well as ports, according to its website. With them, Handpicked Wines accounts for three of Portugal’s 14 October launches in Sweden; the third was Tinta Negra dos Villões, a Madeira red, on 2 October.

Estremus enters the order range

João Portugal Ramos’s Estremus 2019, an Alentejo red from Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira at 14 percent, comes in through the order range (“Ordervaror”), which customers buy on request rather than off the store shelf. The importer is Hermansson & Co AB, which also handles the producer’s Ramos Vinho de Talha. That wine went in the opposite direction on Systembolaget’s price list: it entered the fixed range on 1 September at SEK 169, as NorthSouth HQ reported at the time. The two listings put the same Alentejo house at both ends of the Portuguese price range in Sweden.

The rest of October’s Portuguese slate

In all, 14 Portuguese products carry October 2026 launch dates on Systembolaget: ten in the temporary range, two web launches and two order-range wines. Seven are red, three white, two sparkling and two fortified. The temporary-range releases sit between SEK 189 and SEK 559. Tubarão’s Pet Nat follows on Friday 16 October (SEK 239, Boa Pressão AB), and four wines arrive on 23 October: Valados de Melgaço Alvarinho Reserva 2024, Meandro 2023 from Quinta do Vale Meão (both SEK 199), Casal da Coelheira’s Amphora Alicante Bouschet 2024 (SEK 229) and Quinta das Maias Malvasia Fina 2024 (SEK 189). This publication listed that 23 October batch in its 4 October analysis of Systembolaget’s launch plans. Boa Pressão AB is the most active importer of the month, with four of the 14 Portuguese launches.

What it means for Portuguese producers

For Portuguese exporters, Systembolaget’s price ladder shows two routes into Sweden. Volume comes through tendered fixed-range slots and bag-in-box, which made up two-thirds of Portuguese litres sold in 2025 according to the monopoly’s article ledger. Top-end wines reach Swedish buyers through small releases outside the fixed range, such as these web and order-range listings, and depend on an importer willing to carry the stock. Two caveats apply. A launch date is not a sales figure; Systembolaget publishes its article-level sales ledger annually, so the first read on how SEK 1,000-plus Portuguese wines sell will come with the 2026 ledger. And the census counts only products currently in the search, so wines that have sold out and been delisted are not included. The next dates to watch are 20, 23 and 29 October, when the launches go live.
