Corridor footprint

Vista Alegre Atlantis (VAA) is the oldest porcelain manufacturer in Iberia, founded in Ílhavo, Portugal in 1824. The group today combines porcelain tableware (Vista Alegre, Casa Alegre, Bordallo Pinheiro) with crystal and hand-blown glass (Atlantis), making it one of Europe’s few remaining vertically-integrated heritage ceramics and glass platforms.

In the Nordic region, Vista Alegre’s portfolio is distributed through department stores and premium home retailers — notably through concessions and curated ranges at stores such as NK (Sweden), Illum and Magasin du Nord (Denmark), and a growing list of specialist design boutiques. Portuguese table collections and giftware are also sold into Nordic hospitality groups and upscale hotels, where Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro lines are specified for banquet and suite tableware.

Why this matters

Vista Alegre is one of the most visible Portuguese “design heritage” exports into the Nordics, a market that rewards craftsmanship, provenance and sustainability narratives. For the corridor, VAA illustrates how Portuguese industrial heritage brands can compete directly in Nordic premium segments without ceding margin to intermediaries — a template relevant to other Portuguese tableware, homewares and lifestyle exporters.

Recent activity

Vista Alegre has continued to expand its international presence through retail partnerships, capsule collaborations and hospitality contracts across Europe, with Northern European markets forming a growing part of the group’s export mix.
