Corridor footprint

The Vieira de Sousa family has grown and supplied Douro grapes to the port trade for five generations from the village of Celeirós, near Sabrosa. In 2008, Luísa Borges — trained in oenology and viticulture at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Lisbon — moved back to the Douro to turn the family’s registered brand into an estate producer, and today runs the house with her family, making roughly 50,000 bottles a year entirely from estate-grown grapes across quintas along the Douro, including the 17th-century Quinta da Fonte at altitude above Celeirós.

The house has built its reputation on aged white ports in particular — a category in which it is one of the Douro’s specialists — and that is exactly what travels north: its 10-year-old and 20-year-old white ports are listed in Systembolaget’s order range in Sweden (articles 7242202 and 7190002), placing a small Celeirós estate on the shelf of the world’s most systematic wine retailer.

Why this matters for the corridor

Aged white port is a sommelier-driven niche, and the Swedish monopoly’s order range is precisely where such niches find their Nordic audience. Vieira de Sousa shows how a five-generation grape-growing family converts heritage into a named, listed export position — the corridor’s smallest-scale success pattern, repeated one estate at a time.
