TMG Automotive is the automotive-interiors arm of Têxtil Manuel Gonçalves (TMG), a Portuguese family group founded in 1937 and based in Vila Nova de Famalicão. It makes coated fabrics and soft trim for car interiors and is one of Europe’s leading suppliers in its niche, with Sweden’s Volvo among its long-standing customers.
TMG’s automotive business has supplied the Nordic car industry for half a century. Its first automotive supply was seating material for the Saab Monaco in 1971, followed by Volvo from the late 1970s — embedding the Famalicão manufacturer in Scandinavian automotive supply chains long before “nearshoring” became a slogan.
Today TMG Automotive holds roughly 18% of the European market for coated fabrics and other coating materials for car interiors, second among about seven European players, supplying OEMs including Volvo Cars, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Porsche and Jaguar. The business is part of Têxtil Manuel Gonçalves, the diversified Portuguese group founded in 1937.
TMG is a textbook Portugal→Nordics industrial supplier: a Portuguese manufacturer selling specialised, design-critical components into Sweden’s flagship carmaker for decades. It shows the corridor running deep inside Tier-1 automotive supply chains, not just in headline deals.
