Tetra Pak is the Swedish-founded world leader in carton packaging and food-processing systems, part of the Tetra Laval group. Its Portuguese subsidiary, Tetra Pak Portugal — Sistemas de Embalagem e Tratamento para Alimentos, Unipessoal Lda, has operated from Carnaxide since 1980, and the group runs a Tubex straw factory in the Lisbon area.
Tetra Pak has packaged Portuguese milk, juice and food products for more than four decades. Its Carnaxide-based subsidiary supplies and services the carton-filling lines and processing equipment used by Portuguese dairies, juice bottlers and food manufacturers, making the Swedish-founded group a structural part of the country’s food-and-beverage supply chain.
Beyond sales and service, Tetra Pak manufactures in Portugal: its Tubex site switched its production lines to make paper straws for Tetra Pak cartons, anchoring part of the group’s European packaging supply chain in the country and tying Portuguese manufacturing into Tetra Pak’s move away from single-use plastics.
Tetra Pak is one of the longest-standing Swedish industrial presences in Portugal — not a sales office but a four-decade operation with local manufacturing. It exemplifies the Nordic-to-Iberia pattern NorthSouth HQ tracks: Scandinavian industrial leaders embedding production and service deep inside the Portuguese economy.
Tetra Pak converted its Portuguese Tubex factory to produce paper straws exclusively, replacing plastic straws across its carton range as part of the group’s EU single-use-plastics compliance.
