Santos, the Águeda manufacturer of mechanical locking solutions founded in 1948, was acquired by Sweden’s ASSA ABLOY in a deal announced in late June 2026. With more than 140 employees and 2025 sales of about €9.3 million, it joins the group’s EMEIA division under ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Portugal.
ASSA ABLOY, the world’s largest access-solutions group, announced the acquisition of Santos in late June 2026. The 78-year-old company keeps its main office and factory in Águeda, at the centre of the Aveiro region’s light-metalworking cluster, and folds into ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Portugal — the group’s dedicated Portuguese unit led by VP João Carmo. The group said the deal will be accretive to earnings per share from the start.
“This acquisition delivers on our strategy to strengthen our position in mature markets through adding complementary products and solutions to our core business,” said Neil Vann, EVP and head of the EMEIA division. Santos is ASSA ABLOY’s second announced Portuguese acquisition of 2026, following the roughly €58-million-revenue Rollerdoor group of Leiria in April.
