Corridor footprint

RVM Systems develops, manufactures, sells and services reverse vending machines and high-speed container-counting solutions for retailers, return-point operators and deposit-return-scheme operators. The company began in 1994 in Drammen, Norway, trading as Repant AS, and was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange before being acquired in May 2015 by Färna Invest, the wholly owned investment vehicle of Gerald Engström, founder and largest owner of the global ventilation group Systemair. It is now run from Sweden under group CEO Niklas Engström, with roughly 116 employees and machines delivered in more than 40 countries.

In Portugal the group operates through BRCM - Beverage Container Recycling Machines, Unipessoal, Lda, with a dedicated Portuguese web presence at rvmsystems.pt. The timing is deliberate: Portugal launched its national deposit return system, Volta, on 10 April 2026 — the first full-scale scheme in continental Southern Europe — covering single-use plastic bottles and metal cans under three litres at a €0.10 deposit. At launch the national network spanned roughly 2,500 reverse vending machines, more than 8,000 manual collection points and 48 large-volume kiosks, including bulk-feed machines able to process up to 120 unsorted containers a minute.

Why this matters for the corridor

Deposit return is one of the clearest Nordic policy exports of the decade: Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland built the schemes, the return rates and — crucially — the equipment industry around them. Portugal’s Volta rollout converts that head start into hardware and service revenue flowing south, and RVM Systems’ Portuguese subsidiary puts a Nordic-rooted supplier on the ground for a build-out measured in thousands of machines with decades of servicing behind them.
