Corridor footprint

Rohde Nielsen is one of Denmark’s leading marine contractors, specialising in dredging, land reclamation and coastal protection with an international fleet of trailing suction hopper, cutter and backhoe dredgers. The company has a recurring Portuguese project portfolio: in 2019 it was awarded a coastal-protection contract by APL / Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente to dredge 1,000,000 m³ of sand from the access channel to the Port of Lisbon and pump it ashore via a 700 m sinker line to nourish Costa da Caparica’s beaches — a job completed in 41 days on a 60-day window. In 2022 it wrapped up a follow-on dredging campaign at the Port of Aveiro.

Why this matters for the corridor

Portugal’s ports and Atlantic coastline need continuous dredging and nourishment work, and Danish marine contractors are structural suppliers: Rohde Nielsen’s Aveiro and Caparica projects illustrate how Nordic marine engineering capacity flows into Portuguese port infrastructure and coastal-resilience programmes, often under direct contracts with Portuguese port authorities and environmental agencies.
