Ílhavo stoneware-tableware manufacturer created in 2012 to supply IKEA after winning an international tender, now a designated IKEA “prioritized supplier” producing tens of millions of pieces a year under a contract extended to 2034. Part of the Vista Alegre / Visabeira group.
Ria Stone — legally RIA STONE, Fábrica de Louça de Mesa em Grés, S.A. — was created in Ílhavo in 2012 after winning an international tender to supply Sweden’s IKEA. It is majority-owned by the Portuguese Vista Alegre / Visabeira group but operates as a distinct entity built specifically around the IKEA relationship.
Today the factory is one of IKEA’s designated “prioritized suppliers” of stoneware tableware, producing tens of millions of pieces a year. Reporting in 2026 pointed to a contract renewal extending the relationship to 2034 and underpinning a new €40 million factory investment.
Ria Stone is the Portugal ↔ Scandinavia corridor working in its under-told direction — a Portuguese company embedding itself with Nordic customers and partners rather than simply exporting at arm’s length. It is one data point in the wider story NorthSouth HQ tracks of Portuguese industry winning in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
