Corridor footprint

Quinta dos Roques is one of the canonical Dão estates that, alongside Quinta de Saes and Álvaro Castro, drove the international rehabilitation of the region from the late 1990s onwards. The estate uses indigenous Dão varieties — Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz and Encruzado — and is widely regarded by Nordic on-trade sommeliers as a benchmark expression of granitic Dão terroir.

The Norwegian footprint is concentrated on two named SKUs at Vinmonopolet: Quinta dos Roques Reserva 2016 (product 4952601, retail ~320.90 NOK for 75 cl) and the classic Quinta dos Roques 2016 (product 3079001, ~144.40 NOK). The two-price-point structure — an everyday red around 150 NOK plus a Reserva at the 300+ NOK tier — is the textbook Vinmonopolet positioning for an export-oriented Portuguese estate.

Why this matters for the corridor

Dão is structurally under-represented in the Nordic monopoly catalogues compared to Douro and Alentejo, despite producing some of Portugal’s most age-worthy reds. Quinta dos Roques is one of the few Dão producers that has held a stable Vinmonopolet article number through multiple vintage cycles — a pre-requisite for restaurant sommeliers willing to commit to a Norwegian by-the-glass list. The estate is a quiet but consistent example of the ‘identity-grape’ play working in the Nordic monopoly system.
