Quinta do Javali, an 18-hectare estate in Nagozelo do Douro (São João da Pesqueira) worked by the Mendes family since 1982 on land under vine since the 1650s, is among the smallest registered port producers in the Douro — and Danish importer Portvinsoplevelser is its sole importer for Denmark.
Quinta do Javali farms 18 hectares of schist terraces between 150 and 300 metres on the Douro’s left bank, planted to Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Sousão. All its ports are foot-trodden, and the estate ranks among the smallest registered port producers in the valley.
In Denmark the estate is represented exclusively by specialist importer Portvinsoplevelser, which visits the quinta several times a year and built its own-import portfolio around Javali alongside Quinta da Silveira, Quinta Seara d’Ordens and Vasques de Carvalho — a personal, direct-trade model typical of how small Douro estates now reach Nordic drinkers.
