Quinta do Cardo is Companhia das Quintas’ organic estate at Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo in the Beira Interior, farmed by Agrocardo – Sociedade de Aproveitamentos Agro-Pecuários, S.A.: 180 hectares, 69 of them vineyard certified for organic production at an average altitude of 750 metres, described as the largest organic-certified wine estate in Portugal. Since 1 September 2026 its Quinta do Cardo Organic 2024 red has been in Systembolaget’s fixed assortment at SEK 99, imported by Winepartners Nordic AB.
Quinta do Cardo lies near the village of Castelo Rodrigo, sheltered by the Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo ranges and surrounded by the Douro, Côa and Águeda rivers. Of its 180 hectares, 69 are vineyards certified for organic production; the rest is cork oak and native woodland. The first vines were planted in 1932, Companhia das Quintas bought the property in 2001, and the farming company, Agrocardo (NIF 500858870), is registered at the estate for viticulture.
In Sweden the estate’s route is the monopoly’s fixed range. Systembolaget moved Quinta do Cardo Organic 2024, a Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca blend, into its fast sortiment on 1 September 2026 at SEK 99, with Winepartners Nordic AB as importer and Agrocardo SA as the registered producer. A fixed-range slot puts the wine on store shelves rather than in the order-only range, and it is the estate’s first line at the monopoly in recent years: the 2024 and 2025 article ledgers list no Quinta do Cardo articles.
Organic reds under SEK 100 are one of the most contested price points in Systembolaget’s fixed range, which the monopoly fills through purchase tenders. A Beira Interior estate winning a fixed slot on certification and price, rather than on Douro or Alentejo name recognition, shows that Portugal’s less-known inland regions can compete in Sweden when they bring scale in organic vineyard.
