Corridor footprint

Quinta das Marias was founded in 1991 by Elisabeth and Peter Eckert as a family project in the Dão, starting with four hectares and growing through purchases of bordering land to twelve hectares today, set between the Serra da Estrela and Caramulo mountain ranges. Peter Eckert runs the viticulture, while Luís Lopes — trained in Portugal with stints in France, Germany and New Zealand — has been responsible for oenology since August 2018, across a range of whites, reds and rosés from blends and single varietals.

In Denmark the estate’s wines are imported and sold by Portugalore, the Copenhagen-based specialist in Portuguese wine and delicacies, which profiles Quinta das Marias among its producers.

Why this matters for the corridor

The Dão’s elegant, Atlantic-influenced style matches Nordic sommelier taste, and importer-led boutique listings like this one are how the region builds the Danish following that larger monopoly listings later scale.
