Founded in 1986 by brothers Manuel, Alberto and Óscar Meireles in Vila da Lixa, Felgueiras, Quinta da Lixa has grown into one of Vinho Verde’s largest family producers — around 5.5 million bottles a year exported to some 35 countries — with monopoly listings at Norway’s Vinmonopolet and Finland’s Alko.
The Meireles family formalised generations of local winegrowing in 1986, when brothers Manuel, Alberto and Óscar founded Quinta da Lixa — Sociedade Agrícola, Lda around their vineyards in Vila da Lixa, Felgueiras. A new winery built in the 1990s moved the business from bulk local sales to estate bottling, and later investment — including a bottling line rated at 9,000 bottles an hour — scaled output to roughly 5.5 million bottles a year across 35 export markets. The family also operates the Monverde Wine Experience Hotel in Amarante, one of Vinho Verde’s flagship wine-tourism properties.
In the Nordics, the house reaches consumers through two monopolies: Vinmonopolet in Norway, where its Terras do Minho vinho verde is listed (art. 4719601), and Alko in Finland, which carries its Touriga Nacional Vinho Verde rosé (art. 400035).
Quinta da Lixa sits exactly where Nordic demand is moving: Vinmonopolet’s H1 2026 data shows Portuguese white wine up 5.6 percent in a shrinking Norwegian market — and light, fresh, low-alcohol vinho verde from large, export-ready family houses is the profile driving that growth.
Vinmonopolet’s official half-year figures for 2026 showed Portuguese white wine growing 5.6 percent to 666,507 litres, overtaking Australia as Norway’s fifth-largest white wine origin — tailwind for listed vinho verde producers like Quinta da Lixa.
