Companhia dos Profetas e Villões, Lda is the Madeira and Porto Santo wine company created in 2021 by winemaker António Maçanita — founder of Fitapreta, Azores Wine Company and Maçanita Vinhos — with the Madeiran restaurateur Nuno Faria, registered in the Porto Santo business park with €5,000 in capital. Its Porto Santo whites (Listrão dos Profetas, Caracol dos Profetas) and Madeira reds (Tinta Negra dos Villões) reach both Sweden and Norway: Systembolaget launched Tinta Negra dos Villões on 3 October 2025 and sold 252.75 litres of it that year, has a new vintage scheduled for 2 October 2026, and Vinmonopolet lists seven of the company’s wines in its order range.
The company is Maçanita’s fourth winery project and the first on Madeira’s islands. Grapes are grown in the low, wall-sheltered vineyards of Porto Santo — Listrão (Palomino) from vines more than 80 years old, Caracol from 40- to 80-year-old vines on sandy clay — and, because winemaking is not permitted on Porto Santo, are shipped by boat to Madeira for vinification; the Tinta Negra reds come from Madeira itself. The name plays on the islands’ nicknames for each other: Madeirans call Porto Santo people Profetas, who answer with Villões. The registered company is small — €5,000 in capital, incorporated in September 2021 in the Porto Santo business park — and rides on the distribution built by the Maçanita group.
In the Nordics that distribution runs through Handpicked Wines Sweden AB and the Norwegian order range. Systembolaget’s 2025 ledger records Tinta Negra dos Villões (listed under the Fitapreta Vinhos producer name) at 252.75 litres after its 3 October 2025 temporary-assortment launch, alongside small volumes of Caracol dos Profetas and a single case of the SEK 775 Listrão do Porto Santo; the monopoly’s product database now shows a 2024-vintage Tinta Negra (art. 9271101, SEK 299) scheduled for the 2 October 2026 launch, one of six Portuguese wines in that release. At Vinmonopolet, seven Profetas e Villões wines sit in the order range, from the NOK 395.90 Tinta Negra to the NOK 785.90 Listrão and the Vale de São Vicente single-vineyard Tinta Negra at NOK 769.90 — most of them currently sold out, which in the Norwegian system means the importer’s allocation has cleared.
Madeira’s table wines barely existed as an export category a decade ago; the monopolies now carry them at SEK 299 and NOK 400–790 because a winemaker with an existing Nordic route — Maçanita’s Fitapreta and Azores wines are already listed — could add an island project to the same importer’s book. That piggybacking is the fastest way for a new Portuguese label to reach Sweden and Norway, and the second Systembolaget launch in twelve months shows the monopoly buyers came back.
Systembolaget’s product database lists Tinta Negra dos Villões 2024 (art. 9271101, SEK 299, Handpicked Wines Sweden AB) for launch on 2 October 2026 in the temporary assortment, following the 3 October 2025 launch that sold 252.75 litres in its first quarter (Systembolaget 2025 article ledger). Vinmonopolet listed seven Profetas e Villões wines in its order range on 28 September 2026, most of them sold out.
