Stockholm-based lithium-ion energy-storage specialist whose batteries have been deployed in Portugal through the LC Power partnership — over 700 battery units sold into the Iberian market.
Polarium AB, founded in 2015 in Stockholm, designs and manufactures lithium-ion energy-storage systems for telecom towers, data centres, commercial backup power and stationary grid storage. The company works through a partner channel in southern Europe, and LC Power — a Lisbon-based energy and back-up power specialist — has been its Portuguese distribution partner, deploying hundreds of Polarium battery units into telecom sites, small commercial users and back-up applications across mainland Portugal and Madeira.
Polarium's position in the Portuguese market is tied to two shifts: the replacement of ageing lead-acid battery fleets in telecom towers with lithium-ion (where Polarium has a pure-play product offering built to reuse existing cabinets), and the early commercial BESS layer that sits between rooftop solar and the Portuguese distribution grid.
Portugal just ran a 750 MVA battery-storage auction and launched a subsidised commercial BESS programme with up to €30M per project — the single largest BESS opportunity in the country's history. Polarium is not a utility-scale player, but its commercial and telecom/backup expertise is directly aligned with Portugal's emerging behind-the-meter market, where Swedish quality, Nordic UL/CE certification pathways and a ready distribution partner give it a head start over Asian commodity vendors now scrambling for Portuguese certification.
