Lisbon-area aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company founded in 1992, with about 100 people. It is one of five suppliers on the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration’s (FMV) framework for engines and propellers of the Swedish Air Force’s C-130 Hercules fleet, a procurement worth SEK 280 million in total.
Orion Technik’s Nordic customer is the Swedish state. In February 2024 the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) published the result of its “SwAF Propulsion Systems C-130” procurement, which covers maintenance of the engines and propellers of the Swedish Air Force’s C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The award decision was taken on 23 November 2023 and contracts for both lots ran from 1 January 2024. The total value of the procurement was SEK 280 million, shared between five suppliers: Segers Aero Corporation, StandardAero, Pacific Propeller International, the Portuguese company Indústria de Aviação e Serviços (IAS) and Orion Technik M&E, Lda of Pontinha (TED 122826-2024).
The company was founded in 1992 as Aeroequipo by Francisco Peres Pimenta, an aeronautical engineer in the Portuguese Air Force, and today works on civil and military aircraft from its base near Lisbon. It has a Middle East arm, Orion Technik Global Services, based in the United Arab Emirates, and in April 2026 its chief operating officer Francisco Oom Peres told ECO that it was investing about $2 million to open an operation in the Miami area, as the US already accounts for about 10% of its business.
Orion Technik shows a route into Nordic defence that does not depend on selling a finished weapon system: maintenance of legacy aircraft that Nordic air forces still fly. The Portuguese Air Force has long flown the C-130 and still operates the P-3C, so Portuguese MRO firms can offer Nordic buyers experience gained on their own air force’s fleets. With Nordic defence budgets rising, FMV-style multi-supplier frameworks are an entry point for mid-sized Portuguese engineering firms.
September 2026 — The Portuguese Air Force signed a €414,800 contract with Orion Technik for the overhaul of two auxiliary power units for its P-3C fleet at Air Base 11, Beja; three companies competed (Lidador Notícias, 23 September 2026).
April 2026 — Announced a phased investment of about $2 million to open a US operation in the Miami region, and took part in the PT-US Defence Industry Days mission in Washington.
