Corridor footprint

Nokia’s Portuguese operation runs through Nokia Solutions and Networks Portugal, S.A., headquartered in Alfragide (Amadora) in the Greater Lisbon area, with a second engineering campus in Aveiro. Together the two sites employ over 2,000 staff drawn from more than 40 nationalities, making Portugal one of Nokia’s most important R&D and managed-services hubs anywhere in Europe outside the Finnish home base.

The Portuguese teams work across Nokia’s core lines — 5G radio and core network rollouts for major European operators, IoT and edge platforms, advanced IT and managed services, cyber security, and digital business process automation. Nokia operates a hybrid working model in Portugal and runs an active student and graduate programme that has become a major recruiter from the engineering faculties of Lisbon, Aveiro, Coimbra and Porto.

Why this matters for the corridor

Nokia is one of the clearest examples of the “Iberian engineering arm of a Nordic multinational” pattern that has reshaped Lisbon’s tech labour market over the last decade. Its scale — thousands of specialists with senior, English-language R&D mandates — makes it both a benchmark for other Nordic companies sizing up Portugal and a constant talent pool for the Lisbon ecosystem at large.
