Corridor footprint

nif.pt lists the company as Matias & Araújo, S.A. (NIF 503938238, postal code 4750-543 Lijó, Barcelos).

H&M Group’s public supplier list (August 2026 edition, version 1.1) names the factory at Travessa Cruz de Pedra, Barcelos (4750-543) as a component unit owned by the supplier (in-house), with more than 10 years of business with H&M, a workforce in the 1–500 band and five material certifications: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Global Recycle Standard (GRS), Organic Content Standard (OCS), Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).

The company’s website describes it as a producer of circular knitted fabrics for fashion, sport, home textiles and transport, with an in-house design and technical R&D office and its own collection. It says a 2,990-panel solar installation generates about 25% of the energy it uses.

Why this matters

Only 13 of the 63 Portuguese factory rows on the August 2026 list sit in H&M’s top band of more than ten years, and only three of those 13 are component units rather than garment, sock or shoe factories: Matias & Araújo, Tintex and Carvema. That places this Barcelos knitter among the Swedish retailer’s longest-standing Portuguese material suppliers.
