Corridor footprint

Maçanita Vinhos was created in 2011 when Joana Maçanita, after falling for the region’s potential, challenged her brother António to a sibling project in the Douro — deliberately separate from António’s FitaPreta operation in the Alentejo and the Azores Wine Company he co-founded in 2014 with Paulo Machado and Filipe Rocha. The house style privileges freshness and altitude over extraction, part of a portfolio that now spans more than 50 labels a year across four Portuguese regions.

In Sweden, Maçanita Branco 2023 holds a live Systembolaget listing (article 9572401), putting a modern Douro white — still a minority category for Portugal in the Nordics — on Swedish monopoly shelves.

Why this matters for the corridor

The Maçanita family now has three separate Portuguese regions represented in Nordic monopolies — Douro (Maçanita), Alentejo (FitaPreta) and the Azores (Azores Wine Company). Few Portuguese wine families cover that much of the country’s map in the northern monopolies, making the siblings a one-family case study in how modern Portuguese wine reaches Scandinavia.
