Icelandic software house LS Retail sells point-of-sale and unified-commerce software for retailers, restaurants, hotels and pharmacies, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and implemented through more than 280 partners in 157 countries. Its only branch in Europe outside Iceland is a Porto office on Rua de Júlio Dinis, and the Icelandic company, LS Retail ehf., holds Portuguese tax number 980652103. Danish private-equity firm Axcel agreed to buy LS Retail from US-based Aptos in December 2025.
LS Retail is headquartered at Hagasmári 3 in Kópavogur, in the Reykjavík capital area. Its flagship product, LS Central, is a modular point-of-sale and back-office platform for retail, restaurants, hotels, pharmacies and forecourts, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central; it also sells lighter POS systems (LS Express, LS One) and a payments product, LS Pay. According to Axcel, the software runs in more than 110,000 outlets and restaurants, sold and implemented by more than 280 certified partners across 157 countries. The company says it has about 290 employees of 27 nationalities and counts itself among the top independent software vendors for Microsoft Dynamics. On 9 December 2025 Axcel announced it would acquire LS Retail from Aptos, a US retail-technology group owned by funds managed by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, as the tenth investment of its Axcel VII fund; Axcel partner Christoffer Müller now sits on LS Retail’s board.
Portugal is one of four branches LS Retail lists outside Iceland, alongside Georgia (USA), Dubai and Malaysia. The contact page gives the Porto office as Rua de Júlio Dinis 676, floors 5 and 6, 4050-320 Porto, and the careers page lists “Portugal – Porto” as one of three hiring locations with the Icelandic headquarters and Kuala Lumpur. LS Retail cites a Great Place to Work – Portugal certification for 2022–2025 among its awards. The Portuguese tax register lists the Icelandic company itself, LS Retail ehf., under NIF 980652103 with its Kópavogur address; a nif.pt search found no separate Portuguese company under the LS Retail name, and Racius records no Portuguese activity code for the registration.
By the company’s own list of branches, Porto is LS Retail’s only office in Europe outside Iceland, so a share of the work behind software used by retailers and restaurants in 157 countries is done in Portugal. The December 2025 sale to Axcel moved the company from US to Nordic private-equity ownership, and the return of former chief executive Magnus Norddahl in 2026 puts a familiar leader in charge of the next phase. For Portuguese software engineers and Microsoft Dynamics partners, LS Retail is a Nordic employer and vendor with a local office, and one of very few Icelandic companies with a staffed presence in Portugal.
11 August 2026 — Retail Technology Innovation Hub reports that LS Retail has appointed Magnus Norddahl as chief executive officer; he previously ran the company from 2010 to 2021 and, according to LS Retail, was most recently CEO of Annata and chairman of AGR Dynamics.
9 December 2025 — Axcel announces it will acquire LS Retail from Aptos, saying the company employs around 300 people with offices in Iceland, Portugal, the US, the UAE and Malaysia.
