Corridor footprint

Jerónimo Martins Agro-Alimentar S.A. — the agribusiness arm of Portugal's largest food retailer — became one of the largest shareholders in Andfjord Salmon AS in June 2022 with a €16.8M investment for 10.1% of the shares. Andfjord operates a flow-through land-based salmon farm at Kvalnes on the island of Andøya in the Vesterålen archipelago, designed to recreate the salmon's natural Arctic habitat with very low energy intensity. By May 2024, Jerónimo Martins had increased the stake to 25.1%, and Andfjord's biggest owner has continued to add to the position through subsequent share purchases.

Why this matters

Jerónimo Martins sits inside the Portugal ↔ Scandinavia business corridor that NorthSouth HQ tracks every day. As a Portuguese investor in Nordic aquaculture, its operations are a data point in the broader story of how capital, goods, people and ideas flow between Portugal and the Nordics — a corridor that is accelerating in 2026.
