João Cabral de Almeida makes wine in three of Portugal’s northern regions under his own name. Camaleão is the Vinho Verde label — a Loureiro-Alvarinho blend, a single-varietal Alvarinho, a traditional-method Alvarinho Bruto and a rare Alvarinho-Touriga Nacional rosé — while Omnia covers Douro whites and reds and Musgo (with the Líquen sister label) is the Dão range built on old field-blend vineyards. Vinmonopolet registers the producer as João Maria Cabral de Almeida Vinhos.

Norway is the documented Nordic market. NorthSouth HQ’s 13 September 2026 read of Vinmonopolet’s database found nine lines from the producer, all through Oslo importer Grape Company AS. The anchor is Camaleão Loureiro e Alvarinho 2025 in the basis range at NOK 149.90 (article 7407101) — the tier every Norwegian store can stock, and one of only 21 Portuguese whites in that tier — backed in the order range by Camaleão Alvarinho 2024 (NOK 189.90), the Alvarinho Bruto sparkling (NOK 189.90), a three-litre bag-in-box of the Loureiro-Alvarinho blend (NOK 469.90), the Omnia 2025 white and Omnia 2023 red from the Douro (NOK 179.90 each), and the Dão pair Musgo Reserva Tinto 2020 and Musgo Field Blend Branco (NOK 250 each). The Camaleão Alvarinho-Touriga Nacional rosé 2025 (NOK 150) was listed but sold out.

Why this matters for the corridor

A one-winemaker company with a basis-range listing and eight order-range lines is a strong result in a monopoly where Portugal holds only 66 basis slots in total. The Camaleão case shows the route: win the tender for an approachable, well-priced Vinho Verde in the basis range, then use the same importer to hang Douro and Dão wines off it in the order range, where any Norwegian store can bring them in on request.
