The manufacturing arm of Swedish furniture group IKEA (Inter IKEA Group) — formerly Swedwood Portugal — running a large board-on-frame furniture factory in Paços de Ferreira since 2008.
IKEA Industry Portugal — established in 2008 and formerly known as Swedwood Portugal — operates one of the largest furniture production sites in the country, in Paços de Ferreira, Portugal’s ‘furniture capital’. The plant spans roughly 470,000 m² and employs around 1,500 people, producing board-on-frame wooden furniture for IKEA’s global retail network as part of the Inter IKEA Group’s industrial operations.
IKEA Industry Portugal sits inside the Portugal ↔ Scandinavia business corridor that NorthSouth HQ tracks every day. As a Nordic company with a documented presence in Portugal, its operations are a data point in the broader story of how capital, goods, people and ideas flow between Portugal and the Nordics — a corridor that is accelerating in 2026.
Fractio helps Nordic companies enter the Portuguese market — from market sizing to first sales, hiring, and legal setup.
