Corridor footprint

Acústica Médica, one of Portugal's largest hearing-aid retail chains, is Danish-owned: it belongs to Demant, the Copenhagen-area hearing-healthcare group behind Oticon, through the local entity Hidden Hearing Portugal, Unipessoal Lda — the Portuguese branch of Demant's international Hidden Hearing retail arm. The chain covers the whole country, with more than 100 hearing centres across the mainland and the autonomous islands.

The business is substantial: reporting by Exame/Visão put Hidden Hearing Portugal's sales at €26 million with €2 million in profit in 2019, making it one of the more profitable units in Portugal's hearing-care market. Behind the storefronts sits Demant's global machine — more than 14,000 employees and hearing solutions available in over 130 countries.

Why this matters for the corridor

Danish hearing healthcare is a global export industry, and Portugal — with an ageing population and universal-coverage gaps in audiology — is a natural retail market for it. Demant's fully-owned national chain is one of the deepest, least visible Danish retail footprints in the country: a hundred-plus stores trading under a Portuguese name.
