Herdade da Mingorra is a Baixo Alentejo estate a few kilometres from Beja (7800-761 Beja) that its owner, Henrique Uva, describes as one of the oldest wine estates in the region, farmed for decades and developed as an independent producer; the owner’s wine company, Henrique Uva – Vinhos, Lda (NIF 506889793), is registered in Beja. In Sweden the estate is one of the most broadly listed Portuguese producers by number of references: Systembolaget carries twelve Mingorra wines in its order range through Vänersborgs Vinagentur AB, from the SEK 118 Terras d’Uva Branco to the SEK 599 Vinhas da Ira, added between February 2022 and February 2025.
The estate sits on the hot plain south of Beja, in what the company calls one of the oldest viticultural areas of the Alentejo, with vines that Henrique Uva has kept and expanded over decades before bottling under his own name. The range on the company’s website runs from the entry-level Terras d’Uva and Monte dos Pelados labels through the Mingorra Colheita, Reserva and Grand Reserva reds to single-variety Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot, a Sauvignon Blanc, a blanc de noirs, a traditional-method espumante, a fortified red and a Moscatel Graúdo.
Its Swedish presence is unusual for its breadth rather than its volume. Systembolaget’s product data lists twelve Mingorra articles, all in the order range and all imported by Vänersborgs Vinagentur AB, the first two (the licoroso and the espumante) added on 21 February 2022, the Colheita, Reserva and Black on 14 March 2022, and the most recent, the SEK 420 Grand Reserva 2020, on 17 February 2025. Order-range wines sell by the case to order, so the monopoly’s ledgers show modest volumes, a few hundred litres a year across the range, but the listings give the estate a live catalogue presence at every price from SEK 118 to SEK 599.
Mingorra illustrates the second of the two games Portuguese producers play in Sweden: not the three-litre box volume that Casa Santos Lima or the GW:s brand pursue, but a full estate range placed in the order range through a regional importer, where a restaurant or a private customer in Vänersborg can order a SEK 599 Vinhas da Ira by the bottle. It is a low-volume, high-visibility route that many Alentejo estates use as their first step into the Nordic monopolies.
