Getinge AB is a Swedish medical-technology group headquartered in Gothenburg, with origins dating to a workshop founded in the village of Getinge, Halland in 1904. The publicly listed group serves operating-room, intensive-care, sterilisation and life-science customers in over 130 countries. Its Portuguese arm, Getinge Group Portugal, Unipessoal Lda, was incorporated in Oeiras on 30 December 2003 (the renaming of the former Maquet Portugal entity) and supplies hospital equipment to public and private health institutions, clinics and pharmaceutical industry customers.

Corridor footprint

Getinge’s Portuguese subsidiary is a directly-owned Unipessoal Lda registered in Oeiras and active across the country’s hospital procurement framework. Per Portuguese commercial registry filings, the company supplies, commercialises and rents hospital equipment and medical technology — including operating-room equipment, sterilisation, infection control and intensive-care systems — for public and private hospitals, clinics and pharmaceutical sites. The entity also acts as a commissioner and agent for the broader Getinge Group product range, including Maquet-branded surgical and ICU systems following the German group’s acquisition by Getinge in 2000.

Getinge has been a recurring supplier in Portuguese public-procurement tenders managed via BASE.gov, including framework contracts with hospital centres, oncology institutes and university hospitals. The Oeiras office serves as the commercial, regulatory and aftermarket-services hub for Portuguese customers; field engineering and installation work covers the full mainland network, with additional cover for the Azores and Madeira health authorities.

Why this matters for the corridor

Getinge sits in the same Swedish medtech cluster as Mölnlycke, Elekta and Atos Medical — companies that have built recurring Portuguese hospital revenues without ever needing a domestic factory. The Portuguese model is high-margin distribution, regulatory know-how and embedded service, anchored on a Swedish R&D base. For Nordic medtech founders evaluating Iberian entry, Getinge’s 23-year-old Oeiras subsidiary is a working template for what a competent direct-presence build looks like inside the Portuguese hospital procurement system.
