Faropeixe — Comércio Geral de Peixe, Lda operates beside the fishing port of Olhão, the Algarve town whose canning tradition goes back more than a century. The Farinha family’s operation produces pâtés and canned fish under its own Fides label, and has allied with José Nero — descendant of the town’s historic NERO cannery, which operated from 1912 to 1989 — to revive and distribute the brands of the extinct house, including AÇOR.
The Nordic route runs through Denmark: Copenhagen-based importer Portugalore, which builds its portfolio around named Portuguese producers of wine, olive oil and conservas, lists Faropeixe among its producers — carrying Olhão’s hand-prepared tins to Danish shops and restaurants.
Conservas are one of Portugal’s strongest cultural exports, and Denmark’s food scene is a natural adopter. A named importer relationship — not just marketplace listings — is what turns a heritage cannery into a corridor business, and Faropeixe’s NERO revival story gives Danish buyers exactly the provenance the category sells on.
