Elypta was founded in May 2017 by Francesco Gatto and Jens Nielsen following several years of research at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. Its platform measures up to 19 glycosaminoglycan (GAG) metabolites in blood or urine using an enzymatic digestion assay, combining them into an algorithm-based GAG score — a metabolism-based approach to liquid biopsy distinct from the circulating-tumour-DNA methods that dominate the field. Its lead programme targets surveillance for recurrent renal cell carcinoma, with a multicentre prospective validation trial, and the company is also part of PREDI-LYNCH, a European early-detection initiative for Lynch syndrome backed by €13.6 million in EU funding.
In Portugal the company is registered as Elypta AB — Sucursal em Portugal, a branch structure recorded in the Luso-Swedish Chamber of Commerce catalogue of Swedish investment in the country.
