Eco Wave Power Global AB, the Stockholm-headquartered, Nasdaq-listed developer of onshore wave-energy technology, holds a concession with Portuguese port authority APDL for up to 20 MW of wave-energy capacity and is advancing a first 1 MW station at the Barra do Douro breakwater in Porto through its local entity EW Portugal — Wave Energy Solutions, Unipessoal Lda.
In 2020 Eco Wave Power signed a concession agreement with APDL — the port authority for Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo — covering construction and operation of up to 20 MW of wave-energy capacity across four port-owned locations, on terms running 25 to 30 years. The first megawatt-scale project under that concession is a 1 MW station on the Barra do Douro breakwater in Porto, developed through the company’s local entity EW Portugal — Wave Energy Solutions, Unipessoal Lda.
In January 2026 the company completed an ocean-wave and structural-load assessment with MetOcean Consult confirming favourable wave-climate conditions at the site, and submitted its full execution plan to APDL — the formal transition toward construction. It has paid the first half of the grid-connection fee and accepted connection conditions with distribution operator E-REDES, targeting grid connection in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Portugal’s Atlantic coast is one of Europe’s best wave-energy testbeds, and Swedish-listed capital is funding the bet: alongside compatriot CorPower Ocean in Viana do Castelo, Eco Wave Power’s Porto project makes northern Portugal a two-company Swedish wave-energy cluster.
