Duorum is a Douro Superior wine company founded in 2007 by João Portugal Ramos and José Maria Soares Franco, built around the Quinta de Castelo Melhor at Vila Nova de Foz Côa, a vineyard assembled from dozens of small plots and planted from 2008 on terraces between roughly 350 and 550 metres. In Sweden it is carried by Systembolaget through importer Hermansson & Co, with Altitude by Duorum in the fixed assortment since June 2024 (art. 255501, SEK 99) and Colheita, LBV and a 2007 single-harvest tawny Port alongside.
Duorum was created in 2007 as a partnership between João Portugal Ramos, the Alentejo winemaker-entrepreneur, and José Maria Soares Franco, for many years the winemaker behind Casa Ferreirinha’s Barca Velha. The project’s base is the Quinta de Castelo Melhor at Vila Nova de Foz Côa, in the hot, dry Douro Superior near the Spanish border: a large vineyard assembled from 92 separate property deeds and planted from 2008 on terraces between roughly 350 and 550 metres, where altitude tempers the heat — hence the name of its entry-level wine, Altitude. The Duorum range spans Douro reds and whites, Colheita, Reserva and Vinha de Castelo Melhor, and Ports including LBV and single-harvest tawnies.
Sweden is the company’s documented Nordic market. Hermansson & Co AB, the importer that also handles the João Portugal Ramos wines, has placed Altitude by Duorum in Systembolaget’s fixed assortment since 1 June 2024 (article 255501, SEK 99), with Duorum Colheita (article 5152301, SEK 159) and the 2019 Late Bottled Vintage Port (article 9266701, SEK 299) available in the order assortment, and a 2007 Single Harvest tawny Port released in the temporary range on 5 December 2025 at SEK 399. All four listings were confirmed in NorthSouth HQ’s 12 September 2026 read of the monopoly’s database.
Duorum is one of the few Douro producers with both a fixed-range table wine and a Port range on the same Swedish importer, which lets it sell the Douro Superior story across price points from SEK 99 to SEK 399. With Hermansson & Co also carrying João Portugal Ramos’ Vinho de Talha into the fixed assortment on 1 September 2026, the importer has become one of the more important single doors into Sweden for the Ramos family of wines.
