Duorum

Wine

Douro and Alentejo wine venture founded in 2007 by José Maria Soares Franco — the winemaker long associated with the legendary Barca Velha — and João Portugal Ramos, one of Portugal's most respected modern winemakers. Duorum's wines are imported into Sweden by Hermansson & Co. and carried by Systembolaget, the Swedish state monopoly.

Corridor footprint

Duorum was created in 2007 as a partnership between two of Portugal's most influential wine figures: José Maria Soares Franco, for decades the winemaker behind Casa Ferreirinha's iconic Barca Velha, and João Portugal Ramos, the Alentejo-rooted winemaker and entrepreneur. The project spans the Douro — anchored on the Quinta de Castelo Melhor estate in the Douro Superior — and Alentejo, combining the two regions' grapes and styles under one premium label.

In Sweden, Duorum's wines reach consumers through Systembolaget, the state alcohol monopoly that is the single gateway to the Swedish retail wine market, supplied via the importer Hermansson & Co. A named importer plus a monopoly listing is exactly the kind of documented Nordic channel that distinguishes a real export relationship from occasional shipments.

Why this matters

Systembolaget's tightly curated assortment is one of the most competitive shelves in European wine retail, and a listing carried by an established Swedish importer signals durable demand rather than a one-off order. Duorum's presence is a clean example of the Portugal → Nordics flow NorthSouth HQ tracks: premium Portuguese producers building named, repeatable channels into the Nordic monopoly markets.
