Cutipol was founded in 1963 by José Ribeiro, who learned hand-made cutlery in his father’s workshop, and his wife and co-founder Alice Marques. The company designs and manufactures its collections in northern Portugal, in a region whose cutler tradition in Guimarães is documented back to the Middle Ages. Its minimalist Goa collection, introduced in 2004 and built on a symbiosis of resin and steel, became a global design signature and served as the silverware of the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.
In the Nordics, Cutipol’s collections are stocked by Illums Bolighus, Scandinavia’s flagship design department store, in both its Copenhagen and Stockholm locations — placing Portuguese-made cutlery on the same floors as the Danish and Finnish design houses that define the category.
