Corridor footprint

The cooperative is registered as Cooperativa Vitivinícola da Ilha do Pico (CVIP) – Picowines, CRL (NIF 512010617) in Madalena, Pico, with the production of table and fortified wines as its activity. Its website says it was founded in 1949 by local producers trying to recover the island’s noble grape varieties and its vineyard culture, grown inside the basalt stone corrals that UNESCO now lists as a World Heritage landscape. Today it is the union of 180 associates who deliver their grapes each year. It is chaired by Losménio Goulart and has an international marketing post on its staff. Its range covers white, red, rosé, sparkling and fortified wines.

The Nordic link is in Norway. Vinmonopolet’s 2 September 2026 launch added Terras de Lava Rosé 2024 (art. 20866701, NOK 279.90) to its order range (Bestillingsutvalget), with the producer recorded as Coop. Ilha do Pico. The monopoly also lists Pico Terras de Lava Tinto 2025 (art. 19252401, NOK 260.00), with the producer recorded as CVIP Picowines. Both are imported by World Seasonal Tasting AS and distributed by NBS Logistics AS, and both were active when checked on 20 October 2026. No Picowines product appears in Systembolaget’s current Swedish range.

Why this matters for the corridor

Azorean wine reaches the Nordic monopolies in small volumes and mostly through specialist importers. Pico now has several producers on Nordic shelves, including Insula Vinus in Sweden and Adega do Vulcão in Norway. Picowines is the island’s cooperative, so its two Vinmonopolet listings carry grapes from many small growers into a Nordic market, through an order range in which Norwegian customers can buy a wine without it being stocked in every shop.

Recent activity

February 2026 — Picowines launches two new wines, a 27-year-old licoroso (fortified wine) and a white, presented as expressions of Pico’s volcanic terroir (Grande Consumo; Jornal de Notícias).

2 September 2026 — Terras de Lava Rosé 2024 enters Vinmonopolet’s order range via World Seasonal Tasting AS, one of 68 Portuguese listings in that release.
