CODAN Portugal Instrumentos Médicos, S.A. is the Portuguese manufacturing operation of the Danish-rooted CODAN group, a global supplier of infusion and transfusion medical devices. Present in Portugal since 1966, the Odivelas site — on a street named after the founding Husted-Andersen family — employs around 500 people.
CODAN came to Portugal in 1966, when the Danish group founded TRANSCODAN Lda in Odivelas to expand its production capacity for infusion and transfusion devices. Six decades later the site operates as CODAN Portugal Instrumentos Médicos, S.A. with a workforce of roughly 500 — making it one of the oldest and largest Nordic manufacturing employers in the Lisbon area, on a street that carries the name of group patriarch Stig Husted-Andersen.
The Odivelas plant manufactures medical devices inside a group with production in five countries, giving CODAN an EU-based, euro-zone manufacturing node for products where supply-chain reliability is regulatory business.
Sixty years of continuous Danish medical-device production in Odivelas is a reminder that the Nordic industrial presence in Portugal long predates the current FDI wave — and that it concentrates in exactly the regulated, quality-critical niches where Portugal’s manufacturing labour force excels.
