Casa da Passarella was built in 1892 by Amândio de Oliveira, a Portuguese emigrant who made his fortune in Brazil — the estate’s name recalls the passage of Napoleon’s troops through the area during the French invasions. Producing since before the Dão was formally demarcated in 1908, it ranks among the region’s founding houses. Its 60 hectares of vineyard sit on granitic soils between 600 and 700 metres in the Serra da Estrela foothills, and since 2008 production has been led by Paulo Nunes, elected Portugal’s “Winemaker of the Year” in 2020.
In Norway, the estate’s old-vine flagship O Oenólogo Vinhas Velhas carries Vinmonopolet product number 12782801 — a named listing at the Norwegian state monopoly.
