C. da Silva (Vinhos), SA is a Port wine house at Rua Felizardo de Lima 247, Vila Nova de Gaia, created in 1933 by Clemente da Silva, an entrepreneur newly returned from Brazil, on the stocks of his wife’s family firm Corrêa Ribeiro & Filhos (founded 1862); the Dalva brand, a contraction of “da Silva”, was registered a year later. The house is known for dated Colheita ports and for a rare range of aged white ports (Golden White and Dry White), and says it sells on five continents. In Sweden, Systembolaget has carried Dalva Dry Porto White Reserve (art. 7653402, SEK 133) since December 2014 and Dalva Tawny Reserve (art. 7274502, SEK 143) since June 2018, both in the order range through Granqvist Beverage House AB.
C. da Silva is one of the smaller independent Port shippers of Vila Nova de Gaia, with lodges at Rua Felizardo de Lima 247. Its own history page dates the firm to 1933, when Clemente da Silva, returning from business in Brazil, set up a wine house under the abbreviation of his name and drew his opening stocks from Corrêa Ribeiro & Filhos, the 1862 firm owned by his wife’s family, whose Vintage ports of 1896, 1912 and 1920 were already known. The Dalva brand followed in 1934, and the company’s first export markets were Brazil and the United States, where it once ran more than thirty regional representations, before Europe and Asia. Today the portfolio is built around dated Colheita ports, including limited editions such as the Colheita 2001 released to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Douro’s UNESCO World Heritage listing, and an unusual range of aged and dated white ports.
The verified Nordic channel is Systembolaget. The Swedish monopoly’s product database lists two Dalva lines in its order range through Granqvist Beverage House AB: Dalva Dry Porto White Reserve (article 7653402, SEK 133), on the list since 1 December 2014, and Dalva Tawny Reserve (article 7274502, SEK 143), listed on 4 June 2018 — a decade of continuous Swedish availability for a house whose white ports are its calling card. Earlier versions of this profile referred to Danish retail listings of Dalva Colheitas; NorthSouth HQ has not been able to verify a named Danish importer and has removed that claim.
Fortified wine is the category in which Portugal is structurally strongest on Nordic monopoly shelves — 285 of Vinmonopolet’s 973 Portuguese lines and a large share of Systembolaget’s 168 Douro listings are Port — but the shelf is dominated by the Symington, Fladgate and Sogrape houses. Dalva’s decade on the Swedish order list shows that a family-scale shipper with a distinctive niche, aged white Port, can hold a monopoly listing through a mid-sized importer without a large marketing budget. It is also a reminder that Gaia’s smaller houses are under-represented in the corridor’s coverage relative to their export history.
