Corridor footprint

BW Energy is an exploration-and-production company spun out of the BW Group in 2016 and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Its strategy centres on developing proven offshore hydrocarbon resources at lower cost, with interests in the Dussafu licence in Gabon, the Maromba field in Brazil and the Kudu gas project in Namibia.

A large share of BW Energy’s global organisation is based not in Norway but in Portugal: the company runs a major office at Lagoas Park in Oeiras, on the western edge of the Lisbon area, which it describes as a key administrative and operational hub for much of its worldwide team. The recently fitted-out office was designed around collaboration and uses Portuguese materials such as cork.

Why this matters

BW Energy is a striking example of a Nordic-listed energy group choosing Greater Lisbon to host a core part of its worldwide team. It underlines how Portugal has become a destination for the technical, operational and back-office functions of Nordic energy and shipping groups — talent and cost advantages pulling high-value corporate roles south along the corridor.

Recent activity

BW Energy reported 2024 revenue of roughly US$784 million, up about 60% year on year, as its Gabon and Brazil developments ramped up — growth managed in significant part from its Oeiras hub. Follow corridor energy news on our news feed.
