Nordic presence in Portugal

Beyond Gravity

Space & Aerospace

Beyond Gravity is the space division of the Swiss technology group RUAG and one of the world’s leading suppliers of products for satellites and launch vehicles. Its engineering heartland is in the Nordics — large operations in Gothenburg and Linköping, Sweden — and in autumn 2023 it opened an Innovation & Digital Hub in Lisbon that it expects to grow to around 200 employees, making it one of the largest space-sector employers in Portugal.

Corridor footprint

Beyond Gravity (formerly RUAG Space) is the space segment of the Swiss technology group RUAG and one of the world’s leading suppliers of structures, mechanisms, electronics and separation systems for satellites and launch vehicles. While the group is headquartered in Zürich, its largest engineering operations sit in Sweden — in Gothenburg and Linköping — making it effectively one of the biggest space companies in the Nordics.

In autumn 2023 Beyond Gravity opened an Innovation & Digital Hub in Lisbon’s Entrecampos district. The site began with around 60 employees, and the company has said it intends to create roughly 200 jobs by 2025 — which would make Beyond Gravity one of the largest space-industry employers in Portugal. The hub focuses on artificial intelligence and on strengthening the group’s IT core and digital infrastructure.

Why this matters

The Lisbon hub ties Portugal’s fast-growing space and deep-tech talent pool directly into a Nordic-rooted space champion’s digital backbone. It is one of the clearest examples of the Nordics → Portugal corridor at the high end of engineering — a company whose Swedish operations anchor Europe’s satellite supply chain choosing Lisbon for its next wave of digital and AI talent.

Recent activity

Beyond Gravity continued scaling its Lisbon Innovation & Digital Hub through 2024–2025 toward its ~200-employee ambition, deepening Portugal’s position in the European space value chain. Track related developments on our corridor news feed.
