Corridor footprint

Aquinos was founded in 1986 by the three Aquino brothers — Jorge, António and Carlos — and has grown into one of Iberia's largest upholstered-furniture and mattress manufacturers. Production is concentrated in three plants in central Portugal: Tábua (HQ), Nelas and Carregal do Sal, with additional units in France and Poland.

The relationship with IKEA is the defining Nordic angle: Aquinos is the long-running OEM behind the iconic IKEA Klippan sofa, one of IKEA's longest-lived product lines, which has carried the "Made in Portugal" seal for more than 35 years. Aquinos also supplies other IKEA upholstered ranges and serves Conforama and El Corte Inglés.

Why this matters

Aquinos is a benchmark example of the Portugal → Nordic corridor at the industrial-supplier layer: a Portuguese family-owned manufacturer integrated into a Swedish multinational's global supply chain at scale, exporting roughly 93% of its production. The Klippan story is one of the more durable Made-in-Portugal-for-Sweden narratives in European retail.
