Alleima became an independent company on 31 August 2022, when Sandvik completed the spin-off of its Materials Technology business area and the new group — its name a contraction of “alloy” and “materials” — began trading on Nasdaq Stockholm. The group makes seamless tubes, precision strip and wire in advanced stainless steels, special alloys and titanium for the energy, chemical, aerospace and medical industries, organised in three divisions: Tube, Kanthal and Strip. Its Sandviken home site, with roughly 3,000 employees and consultants, remains one of Sweden’s largest industrial sites by area.
In Portugal, the group is registered as Alleima Portugal, Unipessoal, Lda, listed in the Luso-Swedish Chamber of Commerce’s catalogue of Swedish investments in Portugal — the commercial channel through which Alleima’s tube, strip and wire products reach Portuguese process industry, energy and manufacturing customers.
Alleima is part of the post-2022 wave of Swedish industrial spin-offs — alongside names like Epiroc before it — that kept their own Portuguese entities after independence. For Portuguese buyers of high-spec alloys, the local entity means the material science of Sandviken is sold and serviced from inside the market rather than through a distributor.
