Norwegian engineering and EPC group (Oslo-listed) with deep offshore-energy roots. Operated an assembly facility near Setúbal for the WindFloat 2 MW prototype — the world's first commercial-scale floating wind turbine, towed off Aguçadoura on the Portuguese coast in October 2011. Now positioning floating offshore wind into Portugal's Q3 2026 auction pipeline.
Aker Solutions' Portuguese footprint runs through the WindFloat programme — the floating offshore wind technology that Principle Power, Aker Solutions and partners brought to the Atlantic in October 2011 with a full-scale 2 MW prototype towed off the coast of Aguçadoura, near Póvoa de Varzim. The structure was assembled and commissioned at Aker's facility near Setúbal before being towed up the Portuguese coast in what was the world's first multi-megawatt floating wind installation.
Aker Solutions has since extended its floating wind track record across Hywind Tampen (Norway), the UK and Mediterranean Med Wind (Sicily), and is positioned as a credible engineering counterparty for Portugal's Q3 2026 floating offshore wind auction. With the Setúbal site already in the corporate memory and named Iberian fabricators emerging in the supply chain, Portugal is one of the natural next markets for the group's floating-wind business unit.
Floating offshore wind is the single most strategic Norway-Portugal corridor opening of the late 2020s. Aker Solutions, alongside Equinor, Moreld and Aibel, is one of the Norwegian floating-wind supply-chain incumbents tracking Portugal's auction calendar — and the only one with an actual historical Portuguese assembly footprint to point to.
Pipeline activity ahead of the Portuguese Q3 2026 floating offshore wind auction; group-level floating wind track record extended via Hywind Tampen and the Med Wind underwater substation contract for Renexia (Sicily).
