Portuguese presence in the Nordics

Adega Cooperativa de Silgueiros

Dão Wine

Adega Cooperativa de Silgueiros is a Dão cooperative winery at Silgueiros, about nine kilometres from Viseu, founded in 1962 (first vintage 1964) and gathering around 2,000 member growers. It is one of the few Portuguese producers present in both Nordic monopolies at once: eight lines in Systembolaget’s order assortment via Vänersborgs Vinagentur AB, and a Vinmonopolet basis-range slot for Morgado de Silgueiros Dão Encruzado 2025 (art. 20126601, NOK 200.50) via Swirl Wines AS.

Corridor footprint

The Adega Cooperativa de Silgueiros was founded in 1962 by growers in the parish of Silgueiros, on the granite plateau near Viseu in the heart of the Dão appellation, and pressed its first vintage in 1964. Today it gathers roughly 2,000 member growers, which makes it one of the largest single sources of Dão grapes, and sells under the Silgueiros, Morgado de Silgueiros and related labels across the region’s classic varieties — Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Tinta Roriz for the reds, Encruzado for the top whites.

Its Nordic footprint runs through both state monopolies. In Sweden, importer Vänersborgs Vinagentur AB carries eight Silgueiros lines in Systembolaget’s order assortment, including Morgado de Silgueiros CS Tinto (article 7351501, SEK 118, listed July 2026), the Silgueiros Colheita Branco and Tinto (articles 7692601 and 7768801, SEK 108) and the Morgado de Silgueiros Encruzado (article 7695501, SEK 140), all confirmed in NorthSouth HQ’s 12 September 2026 read of the Swedish database. In Norway, the cooperative has gone one step further: its Morgado de Silgueiros Dão Encruzado 2025 sits in Vinmonopolet’s basis range (article 20126601, NOK 200.50), the tier that every Norwegian store can stock, through Oslo importer Swirl Wines AS, as confirmed in our 13 September 2026 read of the Norwegian database.

Why this matters for the corridor

A cooperative with 2,000 growers is the opposite of the boutique estates that usually get written about in the Nordic wine press, and that is the point: Silgueiros shows that Dão volume wine can win a basis-range slot in Norway and a multi-line order listing in Sweden with the same Encruzado-led range. For other Portuguese cooperatives, it is the reference case for using two importers, in two monopolies, to build scale in the Nordics.
