Corridor footprint

AddLife entered Portugal on 8 September 2026 by acquiring Unicam Sistemas Analíticos Lda, a distributor of advanced analytical laboratory equipment that has operated since 1991. Unicam sells instruments, consumables, technical support, service and training in chromatography, spectrometry and microwave technology to universities, research institutes and industrial laboratories, and describes itself as the sole Portuguese representative for the chromatography, spectrometry and molecular-spectroscopy divisions of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Thermo Scientific brand, as well as for Milestone microwave systems. It is headquartered in Miraflores, Algés, on the western edge of Lisbon, with a second office and technical-service base in Maia outside Porto, and is certified to ISO 9001:2015. The company has about €10 million in annual revenue and 20 employees; AddLife said the purchase would have a marginally positive effect on earnings per share this financial year and did not disclose the price.

Unicam joins the Labtech business area under its own name, in the BioMedical & Research unit led by Vice President Mattias Bengtsson, who said the business “is fully aligned with our strategy of acquiring advanced laboratory instrument companies that also sell consumables and provide services.” General manager Daniel Ettlin and the existing team stay in place. The deal extends an Iberian build-out that had run through Spain: AddLife’s Medtech area bought the orthopaedics distributor MBA in 2022, and Labtech added the Alcobendas genomics distributor BonsaiLab (€8 million revenue, 13 staff, operations in Spain and Portugal) in July 2024. Unicam gives the group its first Portuguese-headquartered company with service engineers in both Lisbon and Porto.

Why this matters for the corridor

AddLife runs about 85 operating subsidiaries with 2,300 employees and net sales above SEK 10 billion, each keeping its brand, management and supplier relationships. Carved out of Addtech in 2015 and listed on Nasdaq Stockholm on 16 March 2016, it now earns more than half of its sales outside the Nordic region. The Unicam purchase is the 2026 corridor transaction in miniature: a listed Swedish group with a decentralised model buying a profitable, owner-managed Portuguese specialist with a defensible niche, following ASSA ABLOY’s acquisition of the Águeda lock maker Santos and Nordrest’s move into Albisabores earlier in the year.
