Aage Hempel is a marine-electronics service group founded in Denmark in 1927 that has been part of Spain’s Grupo Arbulu since 2008 and is now headquartered at Los Barrios (Palmones), Cádiz. It runs 31 offices in 11 countries and opened its Portuguese office in Lisbon in 2010; the Portugal hub, at Campo Grande 28, 5ºA, is led by Regional Hub Manager Juan Magán.
Aage Hempel’s own history page dates the company to 1927 in Denmark, where its first business was importing commodities before it moved into shipping and logistics between Denmark and the United States and then into mechanical supply and repairs. The modern group took shape in the south: an office in the port of Algeciras opened in 1992 because Maersk needed services there, Gibraltar followed in 1999 and Casablanca in 2005, and in 2008 the company joined Grupo Arbulu, one of the largest marine-electronics and satellite-communications groups in the world. Its headquarters today are at Los Barrios (Palmones) in Cádiz.
Portugal came in 2010, when Aage Hempel opened an office in Lisbon, citing the port’s position between Europe, Africa and the Atlantic. The company’s points-of-service page lists the Portugal hub at Campo Grande 28, 5ºA, 1700-093 Lisboa, under Regional Hub Manager Juan Magán, alongside hubs in Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Egypt, Morocco, Panama and Singapore — 31 offices in 11 countries in all. The Lisbon team supplies, installs, surveys and repairs navigation, communication and bridge electronics for ships calling at Portuguese ports.
Aage Hempel is a corridor company by origin rather than by current ownership: the Danish founding and name survive inside a Spanish group, and NorthSouth HQ lists it for the Nordic maritime-services lineage that reached Portugal through Iberia. For Nordic shipowners and equipment makers, its Lisbon hub is one of the established service points on the Portuguese coast; for Portuguese ports, it is an example of how Nordic maritime know-how tends to arrive via Spanish or pan-European groups rather than directly from Copenhagen.
