Marimekko

Design & Lifestyle

Finnish design house founded in Helsinki in 1951, listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. Marimekko sources a substantial share of its production from Portuguese factories — the majority of Marimekko’s jersey products are made in Portugal, with named partners including TMG Group (Vila Nova de Famalicão) and SICI93. Corridor footprint

Marimekko has been working with Portuguese textile suppliers for decades, and Portugal is now one of the brand’s most important production geographies. According to the company’s own corporate website and supplier transparency communications, the majority of Marimekko’s jersey products are made in Portugal, and the Portuguese supplier base also produces woven, quilted and knitted fabrics for the brand. Two named Portuguese partners are featured on Marimekko’s “Meet the maker” pages: TMG Group, the Vila Nova de Famalicão-based vertically-integrated textile manufacturer founded in 1937, and SICI93, a Portuguese garment maker.

The Portuguese sourcing relationship is a core part of Marimekko’s European supply-chain story. The TMG plant in Famalicão supplies woven and knitted fabrics; SICI93 handles garment construction. Together they keep a meaningful share of the Marimekko range inside European jurisdiction — an increasingly relevant attribute as EU sustainability and CSRD reporting requirements tighten.

Why this matters for the corridor

Marimekko’s Portuguese production base is one of the clearest cases of Nordic premium fashion using the Portuguese textile cluster as a primary European supply node. For Portuguese textile makers in the Minho cluster, the Marimekko relationship is a high-visibility reference; for Nordic fashion brands evaluating Portugal, Marimekko’s decade-plus partnership is the proof point.

Recent activity

2024–2025: Marimekko continues to feature TMG Group and SICI93 on its supplier transparency pages, reinforcing Portugal’s role in the brand’s European production base.
